The Kasilof River has the first run of King salmon on the Kenai Peninsula with fish averaging 15-30 lbs. The sheer numbers of fish and extremely high catch rates makes the Kasilof River one of the most popular fisheries in Alaska. During the peak of the run, (May 25- June 14) it is not uncommon to boat 6 to 8 Kings a day. There is no time restrictions on fishing the Kasilof, so most experienced anglers will fish as early as 4 am. If you are willing to begin fishing this early, you will have the absolute best chance of catching you limit. Early morning is also the best time to view wildlife. It is not uncommon to see beavers swim right next to the boat. Seeing bald eagles is an everyday occurrence, so it is important to remember your camera. |
